Blood 1

Please research and report about the role of vitamin K , prothombin, calcium ions , thrombin, fibrinogen, and fibrin in the mechanism of blood clotting.

  1. Vitiman k is a fat solube vitiman. there is some body diseases that don`t allow your body to absorb vitiman k. "Prothombin is a glycoprotein formed by and stored in the liver and present in the blood plasma that is converted to thrombin in the presence of thromboplastin and calcium ion during blood clotting." Thrombin is "the activated form of coagulation factor II (prothrombin); it catalyzes the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin".

  2. Vitamin K allows your blood to clot normally. Prothrombin is a glycoprotein that is both created and stored in the liver and can also be found in the blood plasma. It is converted to thrombin during blood clotting. Calcium ions are the factors in the blood that are essential for blood coagulation. Thrombin is an enzyme that converts fibrinogen to fibrin, which forms clots. Fibrin is a whitish protein that forms an interlacing fibrous network in the coagulation of blood.

  3. Vitamin K, a group of quinone chemical helps the blood clot and coagulate around a wound to help it heal.
    (Dictionary App)

Prothrombin, turns into thrombin (mention below).

Calcium ions, the ion of calcium, a factor in clotting blood for healing
    (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/calcium+ion)

Thrombin, helps create the "police tape" of the body, fibrin (mentioned later), from fibrinogen (mentioned next).
    (Dictionary App)

Fibrinogen, a protein made by the liver that can be made into fibrin (mentioned next).

Fibrin, a protein that hardens and starts the blot clot.

Let's see how this plays out.
First, there is a cut, and prothrombin is turned into thrombin, thrombin turns fibrinogen into fibrin and fibrin collects at the wound and the blood coagulates with vitamin K, calcium ions. Then your cut heals.

  4. Vitamin K promotes blood clotting by increasing the prothrombin content of the blood.
Prothombin is a glycoprotein formed by and stored in the liver and present in the blood plasma that is converted to thrombin in the presence of thromboplastin and calcium ion during blood clotting.
Many enzymes require calcium ions as a cofactor, those of the blood-clotting.
Thrombin is the first step of the coagulation cascade, which ultimately results in the stemming of blood loss.
Fibrinogen is a soluble plasma glycoprotein, synthesised by the liver, that is converted by thrombin into fibrin during blood coagulation.
Fibrin is a fibrous, non-globular protein involved in the clotting of blood.

  5. Vitamin K is a group of structurally similar, fat-soluble vitamins that are needed for the posttranslational modification of certain proteins required for blood coagulation and in metabolic pathways in bone and other tissue. Prothombin is a glycoprotein formed by and stored in the liver and present in the blood plasma that is converted to thrombin. Calcium ions are important mediators of a great variety of cellular activities, including the passing of information between neurons and down a neuron. Figrinogen A substance present in blood plasma that causes blood coagulation.
